Korean-American Fighter Cody Steel Signs UFC Contract
Competing in the lightweight (70.3kg) division, Korean-American fighter Cody Steel secured a UFC contract after a spectacular performance at the Dana White's Contender Series event in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 9, 2024. With his strong left body punch, Steel achieved a TKO victory over Chase Blair of the United States in the second round in just 4 minutes and 7 seconds.
At 29 years old, Steel, born in 1995, overcame challenges to reach the UFC stage. Despite a setback in a previous audition opportunity, he persevered and impressed with his skills, ultimately realizing his dream of competing in the UFC.
Following his contract signing, Steel celebrated with his Korean mother and expressed his joy. He stated, "I found striking to be more enjoyable than takedowns and jiu-jitsu. This feels like where I belong." Looking ahead, Steel vowed to utilize all his weapons to finish fights.
During a post-fight press conference, Steel even mentioned former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira of Brazil, boldly claiming, "I can submit any UFC fighter, Oliveira or anyone else, bring them on."
The Dana White's Contender Series Season 8 featured a total of 44 fights up to Episode 9, with 38 winners earning UFC contracts. The season will conclude with Episode 10 on the 16th.
